History

Shipley

Shipley is a Yorkshire market town with a history of woollen manufacture, situated in the Aire Valley, north of Leeds and adjacent to Bradford, in whose Metropolitan area it now rests. There are around 30,000 people living in Shipley, some quarter of a million in Bradford and half a million in Leeds. Being so close to two cities, there is a wealth of cultural experiences, sport and shopping to be had close by.

Salt’s Mill in the historic village of Saltaire, within the town’s boundaries, hosts the David Hockney Gallery, and other alumni of the locality include the Bronte sisters, JB Priestley, Frederick Delius, George Layton and Sooty. Haworth boasts a steam railway, and Ilkley is of course a place not to be seen in without your hat. The nearest seaside is at Scarborough on the east or Morecambe on the west. Blackpool is an hour and a half away
